Nils Gustaf Nordenskiöld
1792-1866
The father of Adolf Olof Nordenskiöld, Nils Gustaf was a mineralogist who wrote the first work on Finnish minerals (at the time Finland was part of the Kingdom of Sweden). He traveled extensively and commented on elemental discoveries of his time. He first described tantalite in his publication of 1821, the source of Ekeberg's discovery of the element tantalum. (J.
